A Year of Promoting The People Who Make the Things I Love: Jan 31–Glen Weldon

In 2022, I am going to spend some time each day promoting someone who makes the things I love. I started this series because I believe that we, myself included, spend so much time on social media dunking on people (however deserved) and not enough time lifting up people deserving of positive attention.

Today, I’m featuring writer, editor, podcast host and critic Glen Weldon.

Like previous featured amazing person Linda Holmes, Glen is one of the original co-hosts of NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour, which is how I first learned of him. He brings a wealth of pop culture knowledge to the show, and he expresses it using language that nearly always makes me smile, if not outright laugh.

He mixes smart humor with useful information, regardless of the topic of discussion. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed many of the recommendations he makes during the show’s frequent segment “What’s Making Us Happy.”

Outside of the podcast, he reviews all sorts of works for the NPR’s art desk. He brings the same voice to his writing that he does to the podcast, and his reviews are always a must-read.

He’s written several books, including a history of Batman, one of Superman, and a new book about getting into podcasting.
