A Year of Promoting The People Who Make the Things I Love: Jan 26–Alison Lukan

In 2022, I am going to spend some time each day promoting someone who makes the things I love. I started this series because I believe that we, myself included, spend so much time on social media dunking on people (however deserved) and not enough time lifting up people deserving of positive attention.

Today’s featured amazing person is hockey journalist and broadcaster Alison Lukan.

Instead of talking about what Alison does, it almost seems like it would take less time to talk about what she DOESN’T do.

I first knew of her because of her role in the hockey analytics community. As a reporter covering the Columbus Blue Jackets for The Athletic, she made a name for herself as someone who excelled at what she calls “data-driven journalism.”

While so often we see people who shouldn’t be rewarded succeed, often at the expense of people who should be. So, it’s nice to see such a caring, hard-working person succeed. She was chosen to host the CBJ Hockey Analytics Conference, and she did an amazing job. Like my friend Meghan and I were talking about the other day, this was the last big event for many of us, due to the pandemic, so it’s nice that the trip produced so many great memories.

She is one-third of the fantastic podcast Too Many Men, and recently she became a broadcaster for the Seattle Kraken, a role for which she has received vast and deserved acclaim.

If you follow hockey, and you don’t know Alison, I highly suggest you take the opportunity to follow her.
