A Year of Promoting The People Who Make the Things I Love: Jan 14–Chimamanda Adichie

In 2022, I am going to spend some time each day promoting someone who makes the things I love. I started this series because I believe that we, myself included, spend so much time on social media dunking on people (however deserved) and not enough time lifting up people deserving of positive attention.

Today I’m writing about the novelist Chimamanda Adichie.

Like many teachers, I use TED talks in my classroom. They are a great way to bring in expert views and often lead to great discussions.

One that has never failed to do so is called The Danger of a Single Story by Adichie.

I’ve used this as a springboard to discussions about multiple topics from the importance of reading literature from all different cultures and viewpoints to the importance of empathy.

If you haven’t seen it, please block out some time and watch it. It’s a great one.
